Home Office Chairs – Picking The Right Chair

Choosing the right home office chair is a critical choice. Basing that choice on price alone could end up costing you much more than money. Below are some simple tips to help you pick the right chair for your home office.

Office Chair Material

This is actually a big decision. There is leather, faux leather, micro fiber, and polyester. I have owned lots of different office chairs and the ones I liked the most were the leather and micro fiber chairs. They look and feel great and are easy to clean and take care of.

The problem with the faux leather is that they tear and crack easily. The problem with the polyester is that they tend to get burs and fray. However, these will probably be the cheapest home office chairs you will find.

Adjustable Chairs

The next big consideration is how adjustable is the chair is. You will be spending a lot of time in this chair so it needs to be able to adjust to you and your comfort needs. The first  thing you may want to look for is if the arm rests can adjust up or down. Secondly can the back of the chair recline slightly? If it has a head rest, is that also adjustable? Most chairs will have the ability to adjust in height up or down but don’t assume they all do.

Mobile Chair

You will want a chair that is mobile. Make sure that you get a chair that has casters so that you can spin and move freely with the chair.

Warranty

Always check to see how long the warranty is and how long it lasts.

Extended Warranty

Although most financial gurus and spend thrifts will tell you extended warranty’s are a waste of money. I am here to tell you they are not when buying a home office chair. Most of the big office store chains will offer these to you. If not ask them about it. I can tell you that I would have saved myself several hundred dollars.

The two biggest problems I have faced with my chairs is the arm rests breaking off and the hydraulic systems to raise or lower the chair goes out.

If I remember right the extended warranty is only like $15 or $20. Buy it. It is money well spent.

Finally don't forget to get a chair mat. This will save your flooring from excessive wear. It will also make your chair much easier to move around on if your office has carpeting.
